Pharmacology:Mechanism of action:Sildenafil, an oral phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitor, is used to treat erectile dysfunction. It works by relaxing the muscles in the walls of blood vessels. This can increase blood flow to specific areas, including the penis. This process of relaxing the blood vessels allows more blood to flow into the penis, which causes an erection.
